“Mum, do you know I can change my face?”

“What do you mean?” I asked intrigued, “like putting on and taking off a mask?”

“Yes! When I’m angry I can choose to change my face, I can smile. It happened with my friend today, she made me angry, but then I thought I didn’t want to be, and I wasn’t.”

My daughter was seven years old when she made this realisation and I am convinced that having spent those years observing hundreds of clowns (in workshops, shows and at home) do just that, helped her find the re-set button faster.

So many of my students come to class in need of a face change; help from their clowns in letting go of their daily problems, stress and complications. And within a couple of hours they have one, a smiling face that radiates joy. A face that their partners, children, friends and colleagues adore. And that makes them feel energized and alive.

If you’re in need of a good humour re-set button, #clown
